About the Denver Zoo

The Denver Zoo is open and has made many changes to its 80-acre campus to help keep everyone healthy and safe. They opened in 1918 and became the first American Institution to benefit from Carl Hagenbeck's revolutionary zoo concept, that people should see animals at eye level in natural habitats. The Zoo is now home to over 4,000 animals such as the African Lion, Siberian Tiger, Black Rhinoceros, Reticulated Giraffe, and much more. The Stingray Cove experience is an all-new living exhibit that allows you to get up-close and personal with some of the seas beautiful species. The Stingray Cove allows you to feed cownose and southern stingrays as they glide around the 15,000-gallon tank.

Toyota Elephant Passage

The Toyota Elephant Passage is one of the largest elephant habitats in North America. It features two miles of trails on 10 acres of varied terrain. The exhibit features Asian Elephants, Greater One-Horned Rhinos and Malayan Tapirs, and they can navigate through five unique habitats. The exhibit teaches you the significance of animals in Asian culture, and their relationship with humans. The three different sections of the passage are: The Chang Pa Wildlife Preserve, The Schoelzel Family Village and the Village Outpost. Each one reflects a different area in Asia.

Very enjoyable for the whole family

Awesome, safe exhibits my family hasn't been there for a few years but it is one of my favorite zoos. Put on your walking shoes nice big open paths to walk around and bring your own shade and snacks very enjoyable for the whole family.

Always love taking my family to the zoo

Always love taking my family to the zoo in Denver. Staff are always extremely friendly and with the current pandemic happening, they have everything together. The directions on where to go are very clear and the staff are there to guide you where you need to go. I hope the rest of the exhibits open soon! Would highly recommend coming here!
